Why this match?
Barcelona are top of the league right now, unbeaten all season. Villarreal are a long way further down, so Barcelona will be expected to win. Big home crowds turn up for these games anyway, and a win keeps the run going.
Barcelona are followed around the world. Villarreal come from the much smaller city of Vila-real, yet they have become regulars in European competition.
Supporters call them the Yellow Submarine, after the club’s yellow kit. Villarreal won the Europa League in 2021 and reached the Champions League semi-finals the following season.
Villarreal have also made their recent visits to Barcelona count. They won 5-3 here in January 2024 and returned to win 3-2 in May 2025.
Barcelona answered with a 4-1 victory in February 2026. Lamine Yamal scored the first hat-trick of his senior career that afternoon.
That is 18 goals across the last three meetings at Camp Nou.

What matchday is like
Barça shirts and scarves are all around you as you approach Camp Nou. The excitement grows as you move with the crowd towards the entrance.
From your lower-Tribuna seat, you are close enough to pick out your favourite players during the warm-up. Take a few photos as the teams prepare below you.
Before kick-off, Barça scarves rise for the Cant del Barça. The players then take their positions for kick-off.
Recent meetings with Villarreal have produced plenty of goals. A Barcelona attack has everyone around you half out of their seats. The home crowd grows uneasy when Villarreal move forward.
If Barcelona score, everyone around you is suddenly on their feet. You share the celebration with friends and the supporters beside you.
After the match, you have photos to share with friends back home. You also have the memory of seeing your favourite players on the pitch rather than on a screen.
